Difficulty to Fill Methodology

Difficulty to fill is an indicator of how difficult a job may be to fill based on how supply and demand compare to other markets [MSA’s] of a similar size. You can see a difficulty-to-fill rating at the national level and in the market selected. Side by side, these two metrics will help you quickly assess the reality of how difficult it will be to fill a req.

The overall relative fillability of a req is calculated using the following weighted formula:

Supply Index2.5 + Demand Index

*The wage index is not included in the overall index

The Supply Index:

The supply index compares the supply of talent in your market to the supply of talent in other peer markets to determine if your market’s supply is relatively strong or weak.

The Demand Index:

The demand index is a weighted combination of a market’s unemployment rate, a market’s unemployment trend, and the total change of unique postings in the market over the past year.

Once the calculations are complete, the total is ranked and compared against like-sized markets to determine the final difficulty to fill score.
