Hardest Job to Fill Nationally
If you don’t want to compare supply within your specific market, we can compare supply nationally.
To calculate the hardest job to fill nationally, we calculate supply per posting by comparing the supply of your occupation to the supply of talent in other occupations within your market to determine how easy or difficult it will be to find the right people for your job.
Using the determined supply difficulty for your occupation, we divide by the number of job postings within the current 30 day period by the square of supply per posting.
current postings ÷ (supply per posting^2)
This equation gives us the ability to highlight jobs with relatively high demand AND relatively low supply or vice versa.
For example:
Scenario 1: If there are 100 postings nationally and 2 people available per posting, the job will not be difficult to fill. The equation would look like this: *(100/2^2 = 25) *
Scenario 2: If the opposite were true and we had 100 postings nationally and .5 people available for each posting, the job would be incredibly difficult to fill. The equation would look like this: * (100/.5^2 = 400) *
Scenario 1 will be scored far lower [aka: easier to fill] than scenario 2.
The top 10% and top 20% occupations of this ranking are flagged to indicate highly competitive occupations with relatively low supply.
